The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health compiles a database of bodily
organs that are affected by specific chemicals. This database is used by emergency responders
and emergency medical professionals to protect themselves and potential victims when
dealing with dangerous chemicals and hazardous materials. This database is located in
OREIS™ in electronic form under the "Chemical Databases" screen of the main menu.
- Click the "Target Organs" tab, and you will be presented with the chemical listing
and selection screen. Use the letter menu located at the top of the screen to view chemicals
beginning with the chosen letter. Use the scroll bar on the right of the screen to view more
chemicals from the list. After you have located the substance you wish to obtain information
about, select it by double clicking on the chemical's name. Besides using the scroll bars to search for a specific chemical name, you
may type in the name at the edit box. The system automatically searches for the closest
match from the list.

- After selecting a chemical, you will be presented with the initial Target Organs information
screen. the database will display target organ data for that chemical. This
information is broken down into several categories for easy and quick comprehension
by emergency responders.
