The CHRIS Database provides additional information regarding specific chemicals. This chemical database is maintained by the United States Coast Guard, and is available in OREIS™ as a second source hazardous materials and chemical reference guide. The guide allows you to select a chemical by name and access a variety of information about the chosen substance.

  1. Click the "CHRIS Database" tab, and you will be presented with the chemical listing and selection screen. Use the letter menu located at the top of the screen to view chemicals beginning with the chosen letter. Use the scroll bar on the right of the screen to view more chemicals from the list. After you have located the substance you wish to obtain information about, select it by double clicking on the chemical's name. Besides using the scroll bars to search for a specific chemical name, you may type in the name at the edit box. The system automatically searches for the closest match from the list.

  2. After selecting a chemical, you will be presented with the initial CHRIS chemical information screen. This screen presents an overview of cautionary response information. The chosen chemical's name will be listed in an edit box at the top of the screen, as will the specific CHRIS code for the chose chemical. Obtain more detailed information about the chosen chemicals by clicking on the tabs. Each section is assigned certain facets that it describes about the chemical.
