Today in America we rely on many products to sustain our way of living. Unfortunately, many of the materials we must use for our development are very hazardous when treated improperly. This can especially be a problem when these materials are being transported from one location to another. Because of the great risks involved with some of the materials in transport, the transportation industry carriers a huge responsibility in insuring the safety of everyone on the road.
Seeing the dangers that hazardous materials transportation presents, a national organization developed a program to assist in insuring the safety of those hauling hazardous materials, emergency response personnel and other motorists. This nonprofit organization developed the Operation Respond Emergency Information System, or OREIS, to effectively track the transportation of hazardous materials from the point of origin to the final destination. OREIS works in conjunction with the railroad and the trucking industry to track hazardous materials by container number, trailer number and carrier name. All major railroads are linked to OREIS. W.W. Rowland Trucking, however, is the 1st trucking company in Texas and the 1st intermodal trucking company in the United States to participate on this national program.
Through our involvement in this program, all area emergency response personnel will be able to access the information concerning any hazardous load that we are carrying. This ensures that in the event of any incident, responding personnel will be able to quickly identify the material at hand, the safety precautions they must take, and the correct method in which they should contain the situation. This will not only save costly clean-up bills, but it will also change lives.
