The mind-blowing pace of technology demands that companies remain flexible and open to change. As technology moves forward, it changes the face of industry and the mediums we rely upon for communication. The Internet is a prime example of this progress, shifting ideas about how we access software, receive information, and communicate with the world. The Operation Respond Institute (ORI), in accordance with these technological trends, is announcing the release of Phase I the OREIS Internet software system. The application, OREIS 4.0i, is turning heads in the transportation industry and emergency services with its innovative design and groundbreaking applications. OREIS is an emergency information system that provides on-scene responders with vital real-time data about incidents involving passenger trains and hazardous materials in transport. The new Internet version can be accessed by members at www.oreis.org, utilizing a secure user id and password. ORI is releasing the Internet system in two phases. Phase I, which is currently available to emergency responders, contains all of the stand-alone features of OREIS. This includes hazardous materials identification through placard symbol, United Nations identification number, and tank-truck silhouette. Phase I also includes equipment schematics for many passenger railroads and transit systems, as well as several chemical databases, like the AAR's Chemical List and the Coast Guard's CHRIS Database. Phase II of OREIS Internet will be launched in a few months. This version will include all of the functions of OREIS, including real-time hazardous materials content verification and guidance for freight rail and motor carriers. ORI will continue to support the original, CD-ROM based version of OREIS for as long as there are customers who require this connection. The Web will allow ORI to introduce updates more quickly and provide needed management capabilities as OREISTM grows. Current subscribers to OREISTM will be automatically eligible for a password to access OREISTM v4.0i. All that is needed to access the new system is a connection to the Internet. OREIS v4.0 will have dual pricing options that encourage OREIS users to switch to the new system. The cost of the Internet version will be $300, with a $300 per-year subscription fee (or $550 for two years). Accordingly, the original CD-ROM enabled version will cost $350, with a yearly fee of $350 ($600 for two-years). This cost has been reduced from an initial purchase cost of $695. Networked versions of the system are also available at special pricing options. |
